Als je snurkt of last hebt van slaapapneu, wordt die nachtrust telkens onderbroken. Je lichaam komt niet echt tot herstel en dat merk je overdag: vermoeidheid, concentratieproblemen en soms zelfs benauwdheid of hoofdpijn.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"250\" data-end=\"546\">Snurken ontstaat wanneer je tijdens de slaap zwaar en luidruchtig ademt, vaak door de mond en bij een vernauwing in de bovenste luchtwegen. Bij slaapapneu stopt de ademhaling zelfs tijdelijk. Na zo\u2019n ademstilstand word je telkens (onbewust) wakker om weer lucht te happen. fusion-clearfix\">\n<p data-start=\"143\" data-end=\"489\"><strong data-start=\"143\" data-end=\"162\">Fase 1: Snurken<\/strong><br data-start=\"162\" data-end=\"165\" \/>Snurken ontstaat door een vernauwing in de keel of neusholte. Bij het inademen ontstaat onderdruk, waardoor het gehemelte, de tong en de keelwanden naar elkaar toe worden gezogen en gaan trillen. Dit veroorzaakt het snurkgeluid. In deze fase is snurken vooral een sociaal probleem: je slaapt zelf door, maar je partner niet.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"491\" data-end=\"846\"><strong data-start=\"491\" data-end=\"542\">Fase 2: Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome (UARS)<\/strong><br data-start=\"542\" data-end=\"545\" \/>De bovenste luchtwegen zijn verder vernauwd, waardoor ademen meer moeite kost. Je wordt \u2019s nachts regelmatig licht wakker, meestal zonder het te merken. De slaap raakt verstoord en het hart en de longen moeten harder werken. Overdag merk je dit aan vermoeidheid, slaperigheid en concentratieproblemen.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"848\" data-end=\"1252\"><strong data-start=\"848\" data-end=\"870\">Fase 3: Slaapapneu<\/strong><br data-start=\"870\" data-end=\"873\" \/>Bij obstructieve slaapapneu sluit de bovenste luchtweg tijdelijk af en ontstaan ademstilstanden. Als dit gemiddeld meer dan vijf keer per uur gebeurt en langer dan tien seconden duurt, spreken we van een slaapstoornis. Na elke ademstop reageert het lichaam met een wekreflex. De slaap wordt ernstig onderbroken, wat leidt tot duidelijke beperkingen in het dagelijks functioneren.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-panel panel-default panel-bf9a55e2dfdb213e8 fusion-toggle-has-divider\"><div class=\"panel-heading\"><h4 class=\"panel-title toggle\" id=\"toggle_bf9a55e2dfdb213e8\"><a aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"bf9a55e2dfdb213e8\" role=\"button\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-parent=\"#accordion-18881-1\" data-target=\"#bf9a55e2dfdb213e8\" href=\"#bf9a55e2dfdb213e8\"><span class=\"fusion-toggle-icon-wrapper\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><i class=\"fa-fusion-box active-icon awb-icon-minus\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i><i class=\"fa-fusion-box inactive-icon awb-icon-plus\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i><\/span><span class=\"fusion-toggle-heading\">Gevolgen en risico's van snurken en slaapapneu<\/span><\/a><\/h4><\/div><div id=\"bf9a55e2dfdb213e8\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse \" aria-labelledby=\"toggle_bf9a55e2dfdb213e8\"><div class=\"panel-body toggle-content fusion-clearfix\">\n<p data-start=\"153\" data-end=\"695\"><strong data-start=\"153\" data-end=\"194\">Licht tot zwaar snurken (fase 1 en 2)<\/strong><br data-start=\"194\" data-end=\"197\" \/>Bij licht snurken hebben vooral partners last van het geluid en slapen zij vaak aanzienlijk minder. Mensen die snurken slapen zelf ook minder diep en worden vaker vermoeid wakker. Klachten zoals een droge mond of pijnlijke keel komen veel voor. Naarmate de luchtwegen meer vernauwd zijn, kost ademen meer inspanning, wat op termijn kan leiden tot oververmoeidheid en een verminderde weerstand. Zwaar snurken verhoogt bovendien de kans op beschadiging van de halsslagader door trillingen in de keel.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"697\" data-end=\"1308\"><strong data-start=\"697\" data-end=\"720\">Slaapapneu (fase 3)<\/strong><br data-start=\"720\" data-end=\"723\" \/>De gevolgen van slaapapneu zijn ernstiger. Door herhaalde ademstilstanden krijg je te weinig diepe slaap (hersenen werken langzamer en herstellen) en droomslaap (hersenen werken sneller en verwerken ervaringen van de dag), waardoor je structureel slecht herstelt. Dit leidt tot ernstige slaperigheid, concentratie- en geheugenproblemen en verhoogt het risico op ongelukken in het verkeer, thuis en op het werk. Daarnaast kunnen stemmingsklachten ontstaan en neemt het risico op hart- en vaatziekten toe. Zuurstoftekort tijdens de nacht kan leiden tot hartritmestoornissen, hoge bloeddruk, hartinfarct of beroerte. Veel mensen herkennen daarnaast klachten zoals onrustig of licht slapen, wakker worden met een droge mond of rauwe keel, \u2019s nachts vaker moeten plassen, last hebben van hoesten of kortademigheid, vermoeid wakker worden, ondanks een lange nacht.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1245\" data-end=\"1633\">Ademen door de mond is niet hoe het lichaam bedoeld is om te ademen. Je ademt dan meer lucht dan nodig is.
